30 Rock will be returning to Netflix in the United States after it left the service in October 2017. It’s a bit of a surprise to Netflix as NBC Universal has practically removed its library from Netflix in recent years.

All 7 seasons with a total of 135 episodes were last seen on Netflix for an extended period of time before being postponed towards the end of 2017. Now they are all returning for August 1, 2021. This was first confirmed on the Netflix US social networks.

The sitcom is by Tina Fey, who starred alongside the likes of Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit and of course Alec Baldwin.

Netflix won’t be the exclusive home of 30 Rock, however. It’s already available on a variety of other services, including Hulu, Prime Video, and of course NBC Universal’s flagship streaming service Peacock, in both the free and premium tier.

No other streaming services have been announced, however a large number of NBC Universal sitcoms have come to Netflix internationally in the past few months. Towards the beginning of the year The office, Parks & Recreation and Supermarket joined Netflix in most regions outside of the United States. In addition, Netflix is distributing Brooklyn Nine-Nine and a few other NBC mega hits internationally.

Whether this now sets a precedent for some of the other NBC shows that Netflix US has lost in recent years is unclear. Above all, Netflix wanted to keep The office who left on 01/01/2021.

As mentioned earlier, this is a small break for NBC Universal in the last few months and years. They follow most of the other major platforms by pulling their content in favor of their own service. In the past few weeks, however, they have signed lucrative contracts for Universal’s animation board, including Dreamworks and Illumination, and secured a number of titles from the Back Library over the next several years.

Some of Tina Fey’s other works can be found on Netflix. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is still on Netflix with four full seasons and one interactive special. Fey also played in Wine country published in 2019 written by Amy Poehler.
