The trailer of Chhatrasal from MX Player, starring Ashutosh Rana and Jitin Gulati, is out. Set in 1649, the series follows the story of King Chhatrasal who started a war against Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb to free Bundelkhand. The historical drama is narrated by Neena Gupta, who also appears in the web series trailer.
Judging by the trailer, the series looks a bit over the top with a heavy reliance on visual effects for recreating the period setting. It also relies heavily on Rana’s image of playing the villain successfully over the years.
The show, directed by Anadii Chaturvedi, also features Vaibhavi Shandilya, Manish Wadhwa, Anushka Luhar and Rudra Soni in key roles.
Speaking about his role as Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana said in a statement: “Aurangzeb is one of the most feared and powerful emperors in history. Although I have played negative characters in the past it was daunting to play such a character but at the same time it allowed me to explore a different genre of acting. I hope the public will relive the courage of Maharaja Chhatrasal with this web series.”
“Through these kinds of stories, our rich history and heritage reign. I hope viewers are inspired by the story of this unsung warrior,” said Jitin Gulati, who plays the titular role.
Chhatrasal will begin streaming on MX Player from July 29.
