The latest industry buzz suggests that actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan will return to host Bigg Boss Tamil 5. However, official confirmation is awaited. The new season will start in a few months.
Kamal has been the face of the popular reality show since its inception in 2017. Kamal is said to have a five-year contract with the showrunners.
The success of Bigg Boss helped Kamal as he had been going through a difficult period both personally and professionally at the time. He had suffered multiple leg fractures, putting his ambitious project Sabash Naidu, a spin-off based on the popular character Balram Naidu from Dasavatharam, on the back burner. He was also separated from his longtime partner Gautami Tadimalla.
Bigg Boss not only helped him recover, it also provided him with a platform to show his political beliefs and promote his political party Makkal Needhi Maiam. He was also unapologetic when it came to using his time on the weekend episodes to campaign for his party.
Kamal, meanwhile, is caught between projects. His highly anticipated film Indian 2, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster, is embroiled in lawsuits over the differences between director Shankar and production company Lyca Productions. The film was delayed after a freak accident that killed three of Shankar’s assistants. While Shankar wants to move on to another project, Lyca has gone to court to prevent him from starting another movie without finishing Indian 2 first.
Kamal has now also signed a film with Lokesh Kanagaraj. The movie, called Vikram, has already caused a lot of excitement among movie buffs, thanks to an intriguing and stylish teaser that filmmakers had previously released.
