One Direction star Liam Payne has called off his engagement to model Maya Henry. The news comes just under a year after they revealed their engagement in August 2020. During his virtual appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast, the 27-year-old singer confirmed that he is now single.
Payne said he was “disappointed” with himself for having “hurt people,” Entertainment Weekly reported. “I feel more than anything at the moment, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep hurting people. That annoys me. I just haven’t been that good at relationships,” he said.
“And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships, I feel at this point. I’m just not very good at it, so I have to work on myself first before imposing myself on anyone else. And I feel like that’s where I ended up in my last relationship,” he added.
Payne abstained from revealing the exact reason for his breakup with 20-year-old Henry, but said he felt he “didn’t give a very good version of (himself) anymore.” “I can honestly say it makes me feel better. I didn’t feel right doing what I was doing, but it had to be done. I know that’s the corniest way of saying it was the best for both of us… but that’s just how it feels,” the singer said.
Payne and Henry were first linked in August 2018 and they confirmed their relationship in 2019. Payne previously dated “Girls Aloud” singer Cheryl between 2016 and 2018. They share a son, Bear, who was born in March 2017.
