Raj Kundra’s old tweet about ‘porn vs prostitution’ goes viral after arrest, internet calls it ‘ironic’

A day after Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra was arrested for his alleged role in a case involving the production and distribution of pornographic films, an old tweet of his has surfaced on the internet. In the tweet, the businessman had wondered why pornography was legal and prostitution was not.

“Okay, so here’s porn versus prostitution. Why is it legal to pay someone for sex on camera? How is one different from the other?? (sic),” Raj Kundra had tweeted in March 2012. The tweet resurfaced after his arrest late last night.

Twitter users called the tweet “ironic”, referring to his arrest by the Mumbai police, and asked if he had now received his reply. Many users said he must have learned the difference.

Nine arrests have been made so far in the case. Kundra’s close friend, Ryan Thorpe, was also arrested and brought to court with him on Tuesday. The case was registered in February after a woman filed a case about being forced to make a porn movie after being promised an acting gig, PTI quoted a police officer as saying. Kundra’s name came up during the interrogation.

Police said Kundra was a “key conspirator” in the case and said there was ample evidence against him. Hemant Nagrale, the Mumbai Police Commissioner, said on Monday: “We arrested Raj Kundra in this case on 19/7/21 as he appears to be the main conspirator in this. We have sufficient evidence for this. An investigation is underway.”
