Shershaah: Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani’s Kargil war drama will be released on Amazon Prime on this date

A sneak peek of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer Shershaah released Thursday afternoon. The film, jointly presented by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Amazon Prime Video India, will be released on August 12, ahead of the country’s Independence Day.

The one-minute video featured a few shots of Malhotra dressed in the army uniform as the late Captain Vikram Batra, mixed with some real-life footage of the Kargil War, featuring Vikram Batra himself and media personality Barkha Dutt.

Shershaah is essentially a war drama that potentially packs an emotional punch as well. The video announcing the release date was first shared by filmmaker Karan Johar on his Twitter handle, who wrote: “An extraordinary journey of courage and bravery from an ordinary man. Very honored, excited and excited to present #ShershaahOnPrime , which will be released only on @primevideoin on August 12. #Shershaah.”

The official synopsis of the film reads: “Shershaah is a story of courage, love and sacrifice, inspired by the life of Captain Vikram Batra (PVC). The film celebrates his brave spirit and honors his priceless sacrifice in the 1999 Kargil War. Staying true to his codename ‘Shershaah’, Captain Batra’s valiant struggle and ultimate sacrifice were essential to India’s victory.”

In a statement about the film, Karan said: “Shershaah is the true story of a war hero whose indomitable spirit and courage brought victory to our country. His sacrifices are priceless and his life is an inspiration for future generations. We are thrilled that we have found a home for what I believe to be a true cinematic marvel in Amazon Prime Video and we are excited to mark the beginning of a new chapter in our relationship with them Shershaah is our tribute to the courage of our soldiers and I hope every viewer’s heart swells with pride watching this film.”

Aided by Vishnu Varadhan, Shershaah also features Shiv Panditt, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himmanshu Ashok Malhotra, Nikitin Dheer, Ankita Goraya, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar and Pawan Chopra in pivotal roles.
